YORDANIA – Ribuan pengunjuk rasa telah turun ke jalan-jalan di ibukota Yordania, Amman, menuntut pemerintah untuk menolak reformasi yang disarankan IMF, yang terfokus pada langkah-langkah penghematan.
Protes besar-besaran telah terjadi di ibukota Yordania dan kota-kota lain sejak 30 Mei, setelah pemerintah mengusulkan seperangkat reformasi ekonomi yang bertujuan untuk menaikkan pajak dan mengurangi pengeluaran sesuai dengan persyaratan Dana Moneter Internasional (IMF).
Proposal legislatif belum disetujui oleh parlemen. Perdana Menteri Yordania dan perwakilan serikat pekerja mencoba menegosiasikan kompromi tentang pajak pada 2 Mei, tetapi akhirnya gagal dan protes terus berlanjut.
